Validus’ Batumbu Partners with SKB Food to Enhance Financial Literacy and Equip Young Farmers with Modern Business Tools in Indonesia

Singapore/Jakarta, August 19, 2024 – Recent reports reveal that Indonesia’s financial literacy index stands at 65.43%, while the financial inclusion index has reached 75.02% in 2024. To enhance financial literacy and address this gap, Validus’ Indonesian arm, PT Berdayakan Usaha Indonesia (Batumbu) and SKB Food (PT Sari Kreasi Boga Tbk) organised an event aimed at empowering young farmers in Karawang.

The event, part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program held on August 9, 2024, provided modern equipment to young farmers and also included a financial literacy presentation to help them manage their businesses more effectively. Key attendees included Rifki Habibi BA.IR, Chairman of DPC Karawang Youth Farmers Indonesia; Drs. Rohman M.Si, Head of Agriculture & Food Security Office of Karawang Regency; Reza Perazi Armadi, Deputy CEO of Batumbu; Paulus Adinata Widia, Director at Batumbu; and Eko Pujianto, President Director of SKB Food.

Batumbu Deputy CEO Reza Perazi Armadi said that Batumbu’s collaboration with SKB Food in supporting Karawang Youth Farmers is a very important role in developing farmers’ capacity and as a key to success in modernising agricultural equipment to help improve financial literacy and national food security.

“We hope that in the future it can have a positive impact on the national economy as well as being one of our efforts to continue to improve better financial inclusion,” said Reza in an official statement.

Eko Pujianto from SKB Food emphasised that better financial inclusion helps farmers maintain food supplies by giving them access to capital and financial services, which boosts productivity and sustainability.

Meanwhile, SKB Food President Director Eko Pujianto added that financial inclusion for farmers plays a very important role in maintaining national food needs. Through better access to capital and financial services, farmers can develop their businesses more optimally, increase productivity, and ensure the sustainability of food supply in Indonesia.

This program also supports the government’s target to achieve a Financial Inclusion Index of 90% by 2024 and increase the financial literacy index in accordance with OJK Regulation Number 3 of 2023.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) assistance in the form of business equipment was symbolically given at the Karawang Regency Agriculture and Food Security Service Hall, with the hope that it can help young farmers manage their businesses more effectively.

In addition to its ongoing CSR initiatives, Batumbu has partnered with WIR Group to support Yayasan Sahabat Anak (YSA) last month. This collaboration was held on July 23rd in observance of National Children’s Day, focused on enhancing children’s technology awareness at the Jambore Yayasan Sahabat Anak.
