Michael is currently the Asia CEO of Cognita Schools Group. Cognita own 70 schools around the world and have around10,000 children attending their international schools in the Asia region.
Prior to Cognita Michael headed one of the 3 divisions at TNT Express. In this role he provided leadership to multiple businesses with operations in over 100 countries throughout Asia, Middle East and Africa. In this capacity he was also a member of the global TNT Management Board.
Michael is British. He is married to his American wife Bernadette and has 3 grown up children. He has spent much of his career in the Asia Pacific and has lived and worked in Mainland China, Singapore and Malaysia. Prior to Asia Michael worked both in the UK and USA.
He holds an Executive MBA from State University of New York at Buffalo and has attended the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School.
He has been a member of the Young Presidents Organisation (YPO). Previously held external positions have included Vice-Chairman of the Advisory Council for Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, member of the Board of Governors at United World College of SEAsia (Singapore), a member of the Road Safety Advisory Council in Vietnam (a World Bank initiative) and is currently a Fellow of Charter Institute of Logistics and Transport (SIN).
Mr Leow Tze Wen started his career in investment banking in 1996, working with local and foreign companies such as OCBC and Merri Lynch. He also workied with Guy Carpenter, a reinsurance broker in London before joing the Citystate Pte Ltd in 1998.
He is currently the Group COO of Citystate Capital Asia Pte Ltd, an investment company formed in 2009 with the sole purpose of developing a pan-Asian Insurance Group of Companies. Mr.Leow is also Group MD of the Citystate Group Pte Ltd, a business with investments in Education, Travel, and Food operating in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, China and India.
He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and holds a Bsc (Econs) ans MSc (Econs) in Accounting and Finance frm the London School of Economics, UK.
He has amassed over 40 years' experience in the hotel and hospitality industry across all aspects, from hands on management to the successful building of a global luxury brand and international hotel and resort management company.
As the founding Chairman / CEO of Raffles International (1989 - 2003) and President and CEO of Raffles Holdings (1995 - 2003), Dr Helfer grew and public listed a five star international hotel company, from a single 103-all suite hotel in Singapore to being an international luxury hotel / resort company, with over 12,000 rooms in 31 destinations, the first Asian hotel company with annual revenues of over $1b.
Through the offices of RCH International, Dr Helfer has and continues to advise corporations, high net worth family offices and government organizations including Kingdom Holdings, The Farrer Park Company, Fairmont Raffles Hotels and Resorts, Credit Suisse, Falcon & Associates (Dubai), Nuri Holdings, Mori Building and YCS Estates Ltd.
In addition to sitting on a number of public listed and private boards of directors, Dr Helfer is also an advisor to a select group of government, private organizations and companies. He serves as Senior Advisor, at cabinet level, to the five Ministries, which comprise the Tourism Authority of Cambodia. In his own personal capacity, he is Advisor to the King and Prime Minister of Cambodia. Dr Helfer is a Trustee of the Singapore Institute of Technology, member of the URA Conservation Advisory Panel and Chairman of Living Arts International
Dr Helfer holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Michigan State University, USA and also a Doctor of Business Administration in Hospitality Management, from Johnson & Wales University.
